This 6,000 sq. ft. facility shall accommodate 350 people and shall promote and preserve the educational and socio-cultural traditions of people of Asian Indian ethnic heritage, Indo-Americans and friends of India as well as organize and develop charitable, social, cultural and educational activities of interest to them. The building will showcase the heritage of India and South Asia and will include a lobby with portraits of great Indians over the ages. A library and media center will house books on Indian history, culture, the arts, cookery, magazines (both in English and in regional Indian languages) and similar audio and video material. Audio and video equipment and computers will be available. The facility will also house a fun sports center with traditional Indian and other popular games, classrooms (for language, music and dance classes) and a modest warming kitchen to warm food prepared off campus.
The building system materials (walls, joists, roof, etc.) shall be of durable, non-combustible, low maintenance and low initial cost. Walls shall be of masonry construction, the floor shall be a concrete pad with vinyl floor covering, and the roof shall be single ply roofing membrane over rigid insulation supported by steel deck and steel joists.
