Wyoming State Hospital Adult Care Facility
Evanston, Wyoming
Year Completed: 2004
Square Footage: 62,300
Client: Wyoming State Hospital
The Wyoming State Hospital is a center for treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery.
The state hospital is operated within the Wyoming Department of Health and is the only state-operated psychiatric hospital in Wyoming, providing a full range of services and programs. The range of services has earned the hospital CARF accreditation for inpatient and residential programs that are widely recognized throughout Wyoming and the nation.
This new facility was a total of 62,300 sq. ft. and included outpatient and inpatient services. The first of a two-part project replaced outdated Mental Health facilities for the state. The first phase of 52,000 SF included 42 inpatient beds, therapy and hydrotherapy, community outreach programs, auditorium, offices and support. The modular patient wings are designed to reduce staffing and to provide a residential setting for treatment. The design is a patient centered environment: physically accessible, comfortable and convenient, visually soothing, aromatically appealing, devoid of noise pollution, and connected with nature. The building is characterized by a feeling of openness with an emphasis on natural light and exterior views of the Bear River and Wasatch Mountains to suggest a residence rather than an institutional setting.
